The topic I chose in the first assignment is transport emission in new Zealand. Therefore, this assignment was to show “why” about my topic, so I needed to find out the cause of the transport emission. To complete this task, I will investigate New Zealand's transport emission and find out how much impact it has on people and why this happened. It will also help design by referring to various designs or animations. Therefore, I will invest enough time to find the data and plan to produce and try various ideas.
Based on these researches, I will plan to produce design ideas and design them using the codes that I learned in the design course. I will draw and make it in tablet or photoshop to show clearly. There will be many attempts and failures, but I plan to continue to challenge. Also, most importantly, I intend to use my design to show people the cause of the transport emission we currently have.
Transport emission
First, I looked up how many transport missions New Zealand is currently experiencing.
As it turned out, transport emissions were currently going down in New Zealand due to COVID-19. So, as of the end of 2020, it was found that it fell by about 4.8%. It was off my topic, but I was able to confirm that the transport mission was getting better a little bit at a time.
So I looked for data to show New Zealand's transport mission as much as possible. Although it was in 2019, I was able to find the data that explained in detail about the New Zealand transport emission. According to the data, transport emissions are higher than other missions, showing about 35% of Auckland. The calculation method for this is listed as Vehicle Kilometres Traveled (VKT) X Average CO2 missions per km = Total CO2 missions.
Looking for the cause of the transport mission, a total of four things were found from 2007 to 2017. The things that I found were population growth, Petrol + diesel consumption grew, VKT across the region increased, Fuel efficiency improved였다. It is also said that the population growth has increased the Oakland Transport mission by about 9%. So I chose my assignment topic as the population increases as easy as possible. This is because I think the increase in population is the main focus of this topic.
(Population growth -> transport/drivers increase -> user of diesel increase -> transport emission)
According to some further research, by 2028, most of the four causes will increase and show a higher number of transport missions. However, it cannot be said to be 100% correct because it is not certain due to COVID-19. Still, through my research, I was able to find out how much transport mission accounted for in New Zealand and why. So I'm going to come up with design ideas based on this.
Behind story At first, I didn't know the assignment 2 was "why". So even if I investigated the causes, I thought I would only have to continue to show the car making co2 like attachment 1. So I received feedback during progress check time. Data research is good, but this assignment is "why". Fortunately, there was no need to re-examine the data from the beginning. Fortunately, "here" was wrapped around what I wanted.
Assignment 2 Designning
I drew a storyboard at the beginning. There is nothing special, but it has been shown that an increase in the number of people still affects the transport mission.
So I came up with four ideas using the population growth shown on the storyboard. The first one is the design of the wrong idea mentioned in the behind story. It just created a phenomenon in which cars create co2 with Photoshop. The second idea is that as the population enters the city, cars are created. The third idear showed that the amount of co2 increased by continuing to fall from the sky to the city carrying co2. The last idea represented an idea in which fuel continues to be used for drivers.
So I chose the second idea and changed it little by little. Because the design I was going to make had to move diagonally, but there were things I didn't know well and there was a fear of failure. Still, I modified it and changed it to a 2D format instead of a 3D format. The modified idea may be a little easier to code, but I still decided to use the existing idea.
I first looked for how I would design it. Typically, this design was not difficult to find because it was called isometric. I designed cars and buildings and sorted them out the way I first drew them. I uploaded this to the Discord channel and received feedback. Most of them liked it. Also, with a little feedback, I received the idea that the background was too bright.
<Final Design>
So I made the background a little darker and designed a little more by making my ideas wooden. Then I looked for how to move diagonally. It was easier than I thought, and I used it to make it by connecting it with my design first. It was applied better than I thought and I decided to spend more time on coding than on design. To make this coding easier, I started with 300x300. The final version had to be set at 500x500 because my laptop size was cut off from more than 1,000 size. (I used phoshop when I made GIF this time but it made delay I don't know why).
This time, I tried to move the people in the design using the array function. I was able to create it after many attempts, but I had to create a new coding because I had to create an infinite repetition called loop in this assignment. Still, it was a very meaningful process to try various things and learn various coding methods. (I used phoshop when I made GIF this time but it made delay I don't know why).
This is my final version of design. My state is Road transportation is making up 35% of Greenhouse gas emitting sector in Auckland and the reason of the transport emission increase is population growth. (I used . https://ezgif.com/, person is looping but it has to cut cause of change into gif file)
I made cars appear even if I applied a loop so that people could come in repeatedly. But I didn't let a car come out every time a person entered the city. This is because not everyone rides or carries a car. The reason why I used isometric design for this design is because I like it and it's cool. However, the biggest reason is that it is too normal to express various things in 2D, such as an increase in the number of people and an increase in the number of cars I want to show. So I had also received an opinion that the idea/design was too ordinary as a feedback. So I used isometric to make it easier for people to recognize. The reason why I made the car red was because it needed to be a noticeable color, and the background was related to greenhouse gas, so it was too much to express it in bright color, so I used bright and dark columns.
I was able to get a lot from doing this task. I was able to learn coding, design, and interact with classmate.

Daniel’s lecture
I learned about ethics in Daniel's class. I think ethics is something we do unconsciously in a way. This is because when we act, we believe in many ways, find reasonable reasons, and work. In this process, I think I am close to Consequentialism and Deontology. Because I want people to follow the rules, and above all, I keep thinking about the consequences of what I say. However, I don't think a person should have ethics. This is because if you deviate from ethics, the rules about society will disappear, and only discord with people will continue to arise. I also think about ethics when I do data. It makes me think a lot, such as whether this is right, whether this is the best I can do, and why I can't continue in the direction I want. As such, data is a complex process, and there is a policy/coding that must be followed, and it keeps me thinking. This class was perfect, and I was able to get a good time to think about myself for a short time.
