On the first day of coding, I learned how to do the coding, just the basic idea of coding. So, I created a simple animated GIF image using processing 3.
- hard to design the idea that I want to do.
- way of diffcultie are different to the aftter effect.
- coding is much hard to think about for next step.
I started to watch the video about the coding (The Coding Train.Youtube).
During the first quiz day, it was a horrible day. because I couldn’t figure out how to do it even if it was the open book test. it takes almost one day to figure out how to solve the quiz. however, this week’s quiz changes to practice one. Therefore I could get another chance.
This one is a new quiz for quiz 1. It was easy to solve because very similar to last week’s practice quiz. therefore, I could hand-in by the due time.
(real quiz is in the miro board)
The assignment is to choose the SDG problem and change it into an animated GIF image.
So, I focus on the climate action SDG 13. I searched what kind of problem that I can easy change into the GIF image.
So, the problem that I chose to use for my assignment 1 is "It accounts for 21% of New Zealand’s annual greenhouse gas emissions and is the fastest-growing source of emissions. Between 1990 and 2018, road transport emissions increased by 100%, while emissions across the whole economy increased by 24%." (Ministry Of Transport. (n.d).).
This is my first storyboard to show how greenhouse emissions increase from this case.
so, in the storyboard, I focus on the car that increasing from 1990 to 2018 in New Zealand.
This was my ideas that going to use. I sketeched to show how I am going to show my SDG problem. I focus on to the number of shapes are increaing.
This is my final sketch's idea which is car dropping to show that car increasing. I used photoshop to easy to show my idea to the lecturer. because even if I code this, I might be not a great animation for my problem and also, using photoshop is easier to show my idea by animation.
Also, I simplify the problem for easy to understand. "transportation is one of the greenhouse gas emissions in New Zealand" and change it one more time:
"Road transport emission increased by 100% between 1990 - 2018." (Ministry Of Transport. (n.d).)
- this was great idea to make a example using photoshop. easy to show idea and easy to get feedback about coding and design step.
- I need to try to make it more simple. Or think about other way to show my idea.
This is my second or the last idea. It was hard to do, just dropping the shape, and dropping another one after that. Also, it was hard to shape came out from outside of the frame. things that I need to improve were that GIF animation is felt too simple. So, I need to focus on how I am going to improve this more, (This is the coding of my animated GIF)
- it was hard to find out to figure out the dropping the shape and dropping the other one after that.
-if it was the after-effect or photoshop, it might be easier than this.
-Couldn't make it what I want to do. (colors, shapes are limited)
file for code:
Therefore, this is my final version of GIF.
- I try my best that similar to my photoshop's example but still not perfect.
-I think the GIF image is not smooth as well. However, when I over the 500 screen shot, Photoshop gives me the error. So this was my best thing, I could make using photoshop. - I try to show that the shape looks like car so, I used the small squares that look like head light of car.
To improve this GIF
- make it more smaller, the squares.
-there are no impact that people can know the meaning of this design, I think.
-use the more different type of code to make it more stylish.
- think about other way to show the "...increased 100%... ".
Statement of Intent
My GIF animation showing "...Road transport emissions increased by 100% between 1990 - 2018....". (Ministry Of Transport. (n.d).).
The beginning of my GIF animation shows the dropping rectangles, three by one, 3 times. it was meaning of "car" for road transport emission increased. The other biggest rectangle that dropping from the right side is showing the message that "increased by 100%" from the text.
What I want to show, is that the number of cars is increasing really faster and that effect the greenhouse gas emission. Also, the emission increased a lot between 1990 - 2018. We could reduce that number of emissions by reducing the number of cars or others that relate to road transport. Another way is to change to electric cars. I also wanted to inform people of the increase in road-related emissions. So I would recommend walking or riding a bike as close as possible. And if public transportation usage increases, much more gas can be reduced.
