Process

Updated: Apr 9, 2020

When I interviewed my partner, he told me that he forgets to bring the wallet most of the time when he going outside. However, he told me that he does not need it too much because he has some key holder that brings it with small Hop card and house key, and when he has to pay something he uses pay wave apps on his smartphone. So, he does not need to go back when he forget the wallet at the house but there is no ID card or driving licence to prove himself. I got some question about what kind of Wallet he needs most because he said he wants to bring it outside but he forgets it every time.

He has a wallet that bought in Hongkong by 5 boxes last year, and there are some cards inside the wallet, such as old cards, ID cards and driving licence, and I can see the Sim card’s needle. (I do not know why he put it in there). So, now, he wants to buy a new wallet of about $80.

It was hard to draw the wallet for my partner. However, the idea changes my mind that the most important thing that when we design the product is we are not designing for our self (Brown, 2016) So, I focus to draw the sketch for him not to me, even if the drawing is hard. This design is not for me, the person who designs the product cannot be the customer. Therefore I could draw the 5 concepts of wallet design.

Five generations:

The first wallet is for the keyholder. He said he brings key holder every time, so I design the wallet of put on the key holder.

The second wallet is a smartphone case that put the magnet on the back of the case. It is easy to take off and on it.

The 3rd wallet is a very thin one and there a two side for put the card, and this wallet can flip it as well.

The 4th wallet is can put on the shoulder and easy to bring it outside.

The 5th wallet is a chain wallet. I got the idea from a fashion item. This is might be good to bring it outside.

The feedback can be received through the online submission, in a formal focus group, on social media, or other media (Alton, 2017) So, I asked other two in my group my partner and one of my group members liked my second and 5th wallet, and then I mixed together. This is how I design, and I added some new function on it. The function is that the wallet can take off and on from the chain using magnet.

Therefore, my final design is this. I do not have a magnet so, I used colour wire to easy to take off and on, but I feel the chain is too big but my partner really liked it.
